Reacting to reviews and reviewing the reactions. I can't remember a more controversial community reaction to a new album release, and I guess that can't be a bad thing for Tool either.

I've bought it, listened, and I'm enjoying it more and more each time. It's more 'real' than previous releases. The content is tangible, but presented in the veteran Tool context. The graphic art presentation in terms of packaging is original and thought provoking. Also I see that there is some interesting cd text when I play it on my discman.

Thoughts that relate to the posts/reviews/rants I've read about this album:

-Comparisons to Lateralus are natural but ultimately pointless. 10k days is what it is. Undertow still sees a lot of spins in my music gear, though overall I enjoy Aenima better (so what). Everyone seems to expect Tool (and for that matter directors, producers, bands, artists, etc...) to surpass themselves with each and every release no matter how high they set the bar. I seem to remember comments like this when Lateralus launched five years ago.

-Lyrical content/Maynard's voice/the riffs, are disappointing. No. They didn't reinvent the wheel so their newly designed car must suck? Experience and digest the content people. The music fans are loving it, the stereo cranking L33T kids don't hear enough blast beats, and the pretensious music discussosnobs want a new Mona Lisa everytime they pony up 10 bucks.

What is simultaneously amusing and somewhat pathetic is reading the "Best of the Bad" reviews by the self proclaimed review god "fucktards". I think the best quote I've seen so far is "Tool is the Radiohead of Nu-metal".

The album has depth and rewards repeat listening. I've enjoyed it on headphones late at night where the subtle nuances can be experienced fully without distraction.

Think for yourself, question the reviewers. There are 10,000 ways to enjoy the album.

Deportation and Torture?

Quote:

In January 2002 the Supreme Court of Canada ruled, that Canada “should generally decline to deport refugees where on the evidence there is a substantial risk of torture.” This decision, however, left open the possibility that deportation could go ahead in “exceptional circumstances.” What is meant by "exceptional circumstances" has yet to be defined. To this day, the policy remains in effect. Click the pic to learn more and be aware of Canada's position.
